The Italian Women – Nate in Italy project was born with the first portrait of the song “La geografia del mio cammino” (The geography of my journey) by Laura Pausini. She studied ceramic art in Faenza and I chose this material in her honour. Some tiles can be opened, revealing showcases containing objects which are symbolic of her artistic career. The lyrics are engraved in the ceramics and you can listen to the song after scanning a QR Code.

The song portrayed is “Qualcosa che non c’è” (Something that isn’t there) by Elisa. The text is shown in the installation which represents a large sun and cellular body studded with mosaic tiles. Fragments of painted tiles depict the artist in moments of her life, especially childhood and that day when she decided she would “dream of the world with music”.

The song portrayed is “Quando una stella muore” (When a star dies) by Giorgia. This starfish was born lying on a galaxy depicted on ceramic tiles. The text of the song shines among the stars thanks to the use of ultraviolet light.

The song I chose for Gianna Nannini is her “Donna d’Onna” that she composed on the occasion of the charity concert “Amiche per l’Abruzzo” held in 2009 in support of the communities hit by a devastating earthquake. I created “A bed big enough to cover the city with love” entirely in ceramic, using bricks, large slabs topped with a delicate porcelain blanket assembled with wool thread.

The chosen song is “Torneranno gli angeli” (The angels will return) sung by Fiorella Mannoia. Two large wings support porcelain feathers. The name of a virtue is engraved on every feather: sincerity, love, trust, humility, hope, courage, aspiration, perseverance, union, joy, justice, receptivity, understanding, forgiveness, gift of self, equanimity, gratitude, strength, generosity, consolation, progress, truth.
